$6.3 billion Binance hack was likely work of North Korea, intel firms say
North Korean hacking unit TraderTraitor allegedly stole $6.36 billion from Binance in what would be the largest cryptocurrency theft on record, moving most funds across ten blockchains in about 20 minutes. Binance froze roughly $3 billion in affected assets, suspended withdrawals, and said it will cover all losses; deposits were unaffected. Blockchain intelligence firms TRM and Chainalysis attributed the attack to North Korea with high confidence, citing similarities to the February 2024 Bybit hack also linked to TraderTraitor.
