Anthropic's AI Is Getting Cheaper to Use. That's Becoming a Problem for Its Business
Anthropic reduced Claude pricing by approximately $600 million in revenue impact through new model versions and contractual discounts, while compute and infrastructure expenses surged 77% to $9.86 billion. The company's compute costs now represent 58 cents per dollar of revenue versus 48 cents the previous quarter, with $5 billion in expensive short-term compute commitments contributing to a $567 million operating loss. Anthropic faces pressure to reduce prices faster than infrastructure costs decline, with $895.4 billion in long-term compute commitments ahead of its planned IPO.
