Bermuda taps WalletConnect to advance its onchain economy plan

Bermuda selected WalletConnect to enable crypto payments across the island, starting with event tickets through Premier Tickets (PTIX), with payments going live in Q2 2027. The government aims to reduce merchant reliance on expensive payment services that currently charge 3-5% per card transaction, with effective costs reaching 10% in some categories. The initiative is part of Bermuda's onchain economy plan announced in January with support from Circle Internet (CRCL) and Coinbase Global (COIN), including a planned USDC airdrop.
