Binance hackers used fake job interview in $6.3 billion attack
Hackers compromised Binance software engineers' computers using a fake job interview and malware-laden advertisement, then drained $6.3 billion in cryptocurrency on October 29. The FBI attributed the attack to a North Korean hacking group, which North Korea denied. Binance detected 57 suspected North Korea-linked threats in 2026 and says it will repay affected customers. The multi-stage attack began in June, with hackers gaining wallet access by October 20 and executing the theft by using a compromised engineer's credentials and internal AI tool.
