Binance hackers used fake job interview in $6.3 billion attack
Hackers breached Binance using a fake job interview and malicious software hidden in an advertisement to compromise engineers' computers, stealing $6.3 billion in cryptocurrency on October 29. The FBI blamed a North Korean hacking group; the attack began in June with a tampered tool download and escalated through September when a second engineer downloaded malicious code during a fake job interview. Binance detected the theft late Thursday and froze $2.85 billion in assets, but attackers continued withdrawing crypto for nearly four hours; the exchange said it will repay all affected customers.
