Binance Says Hackers Plotted $6.3 Billion Heist for Months
Binance reports hackers stole $6.3 billion on Oct. 29 after months of preparation, including compromising an engineer via fake job interview and planting malicious code. Hackers used the compromised engineer's access and Binance's internal AI tool to drain hot wallets over nearly four hours by gaining permission to deploy software. About $2.85 billion has been frozen or intercepted; Binance says it will cover customer losses and has replenished 98% of affected tokens. FBI attributes attack to North Korean unit TraderTraitor.
