Binance's $6.3 billion hack began with a fake job interview, exchange says
Binance suffered a $6.3 billion hack attributed to North Korea-linked attackers who infiltrated the exchange over months using a fake job interview to compromise a software engineer's work computer with zero-day malware. Attackers gained access to wallet engineers' computers on Oct. 20 and deployed a malicious script on Oct. 29, using an Ethereum feature (EIP-7702) to drain funds from a hot wallet; containment took until Oct. 30. Binance has frozen about $2.85 billion and replenished 98% of affected tokens with company funds, saying users won't be affected.
