Binance's $6.3 Billion Hack Started With One Engineer's Laptop

Binance suffered a $6.3 billion hack traced to a compromised DevOps engineer's laptop that gave attackers unauthorized withdrawal access; roughly $3 billion has been frozen on-chain. Chainalysis and TRM Labs attributed the theft to North Korea's TraderTraitor hacking unit, with about $6.36 billion extracted across 10 blockchains in roughly 20 minutes. Tether froze $1.567 billion USDT and Circle froze $800 million USDC; Binance says it will cover all losses from its SAFU emergency fund and company funds, though the attacker now holds more bitcoin than SAFU's 15,000 BTC reserve.
