Brazil's largest lender becomes first bank to formalize crypto brokerage under new rules
Itaú Unibanco, Brazil's largest private bank, became the first bank to formalize crypto trading and custody operations under new Brazilian digital-asset rules, submitting notification to the central bank on Tuesday. The bank offers 15 cryptoassets including BTC, ETH, and USDC through its service that started in December 2023. Brazil's Resolution 520 requires eligible financial institutions to notify regulators by Oct. 30 or cease crypto services within 30 days; dedicated crypto providers like Mercado Bitcoin must seek authorization by the same deadline.
