Crypto PAC spending before midterms possibly obscured after reported FEC hack
The FEC filing system went offline after a reported hack, potentially obscuring last-minute campaign spending by crypto-aligned Super PACs before the 2026 midterm elections. Crypto PACs including Fairshake, Digital Freedom Fund, and others showed no reported expenditures since Sunday, with spending required to be reported within 24 hours if over $1,000. Fairshake has spent $56 million opposing Senator Sherrod Brown and supporting Jon Husted in Ohio, while Digital Freedom Fund spent over $7 million on the same race.
