FATF targets crypto hubs in review of money laundering controls

FATF is launching a targeted review of jurisdictions with significant crypto activity to assess compliance with anti-money laundering standards, focusing on those with materially important virtual asset service provider activity. Initial findings will be published in June 2027, with further results in October 2027; the review follows a July report showing 83% of jurisdictions adopted crypto Travel Rule legislation but 55 of 91 with such laws have not taken supervisory or enforcement action. FATF did not name specific jurisdictions or disclose how many would be included in the review.
