Hackers Paid $15 to Drain $2.5 Billion From Binance in One Hit
Hackers stole about $6.3 billion from Binance last week, with roughly $2.5 billion (40% of the total) taken in one transaction that cost about $15 in network fees. The attackers exploited an Ethereum upgrade, EIP-7702, which lets a wallet grant software permission to move funds on its behalf, to drain the exchange's Binance 14 hot wallet. Binance said the attack began with phony job postings that tricked an engineer into downloading malicious code, and that the permission on Ethereum survived its shutdown of withdrawals.
