Korea seeks another crypto tax delay over gaps in overseas data and rules
South Korea's Finance Minister Lee Hyoung-il announced Thursday the government will seek to postpone cryptocurrency income taxation until 2029, citing gaps in overseas transaction data and unclear rules. This would be the fourth delay since the original 2022 start date was pushed to 2023, 2025, and 2027; a Tiger Research survey found 73.7% of Korean crypto investors oppose implementation under current rules. The government plans to allow three-year loss carryforward for investors and develop reform proposals through a public-private working group by mid-2027.
