Mercado Bitcoin hack continued hours after exchange said attack was contained, report finds

Hackers stole from 36,042 Mercado Bitcoin customer addresses on Ethereum for 4 hours after the exchange claimed the attack was contained at 12:56 UTC on Nov. 2. Bitquery traced $48.6 million in stolen assets across 10 blockchains; the exchange pledged to cover losses and partners froze over $15 million. The same attacker-controlled address was linked to a separate BitMart hack, suggesting the attacker may have accessed infrastructure used by multiple exchanges.
