N. Korean hackers blamed for record US$6.36 bln Binance cryptocurrency theft: U.S. firm

North Korean hacking group TraderTraitor allegedly stole $6.36 billion from Binance across 10 blockchain networks in about 20 minutes, according to U.S. blockchain intelligence firm TRM Labs. TRM Labs said hackers prepared for at least 36 hours and gained access to systems authorizing cryptocurrency transfers; $2.7 billion in stolen assets have been frozen, but hackers still control roughly $2.4 billion in Bitcoin and Ethereum. The theft would be the largest cryptocurrency theft on record, exceeding the $1.5 billion Bybit hack in February 2025 also attributed to TraderTraitor.
