Stripe Pay Makes Business Transfers Free And Instant, Because The Money Never Leaves Stripe's Ledger

Stripe launched "stripe pay" on October 27, letting businesses send money to each other by handle, free and instant, from the Dashboard or command line. Stripe's documentation says the feature is in preview for eligible US and UK businesses, supports USD, GBP and USDC, requires a funded Stripe Treasury financial account, and caps each transfer at 50,000 units. The author argues transfers are free and instant because they are entries on Stripe's ledger rather than wires, card payments or clearing, and that the value lies in the balances held in Treasury.
