Trading, Money, AI Agents and More: October @Coinbase A lot can happen in 31 days. Enough for a new way to trade, a new way to get paid, and a new job for your AI agent. Enough to double the prize pool at the Polytopia World Championship. And enough for an @intern to take home $150,000 by winning our first in-person trading competition. Here’s everything that happened in October @Coinbase ↓ The Everything Exchange kept filling out Stock options arrived on Coinbase for eligible customers with calls, puts, and zero commissions. The timeline has no shortage of predictions. October gave two of its favorite subjects new homes: live crypto price prediction markets, built around a coin, a timeframe, and a direction; and the Coinbase Midterms Dashboard, for following the election picture on a map. Deribit, the world’s largest crypto options exchange, is now part of the Everything Exchange. Coming (very) soon: US and global derivatives in one regulated liquidity pool, crypto options, spot margin, and unified portfolios. And yes: Coinbase Pro is set to return. Institutional traders got more ways to work with the capital they already hold. Cross-Margin added 10 cash equivalents as eligible collateral. And, RLUSD arrived on Coinbase and Coinbase Prime with 1:1 conversion from USD, bringing another dollar stablecoin into the infrastructure institutions already use. Money had places to be Y Combinator sent $500,000 in USDC on a Friday night. Legacy financial institutions were closed, but this transfer wasn’t waiting for Monday - it just used Base instead. Coinbase Wallet added a way to get paid directly in USDC, and merchants on Yuno can now accept stablecoins through their existing integrations without extra development work. At Money20/20, we also showcased four live Shopify merchants using USDC checkouts. A checkout is a pretty good place to show what the future of payments actually means. The next challenge is the last mile: can the person receiving the money actually use it? We’re working with Thunes on local bank-account and mobile-wallet connections, and with Marqeta on stablecoin-backed cards that spend in local currency. USDC is also coming to Samsung Wallet as its first supported stablecoin, initially in the US. And if we’re going to make money fast, we also have to make it go further. So we’re bringing digital-asset services to Latin American banks, starting in Argentina, including ONED USD through Coinbase Custom Stablecoins. Base also introduced Earn & Borrow as a service, giving businesses a stack for offering stablecoin yield and crypto-backed loans to their own customers. Back in Coinbase Wallet, two updates worth knowing about: a trading loyalty program offering up to 50% of swap fees back each week, and a referral program that lets users earn a share of their friends’ swap fees. Your agent’s job description got longer Coinbase for Agents connects the AI tools you already use to your Coinbase account. This month, index and crypto perpetual futures joined the lineup for eligible users. New bracket and stop-limit orders, orders that spread execution over time, and live-order editing enables people to retain more control over how their agents trade. That work can happen in more places, too. Coinbase for Agents went live on Composio, which connects agents to 1,500+ apps, and on Hermes by Nous Research. Hermes brings persistent memory and scheduled portfolio and research briefings. Agents are also moving beyond paying for data. Coinbase Business brought stablecoin purchases and seller payouts to more than 2 million domains on Atom; agents can now buy domains there using x402, a protocol for online payments. We also partnered with Morph to bring USDC and USDT payments to AI inference, the computing used to run models. The hard part is still agreeing on the domain name. Mastercard is building for that world, too. Their Agent Pay for Machines entered developer early access after pilots with partners including Coinbase, Cloudflare, and Base. Coinbase Developer Platform supplies the wallets that fund agents, x402 lets digital services request payment, and Base handles onchain settlement. The people behind the handles The trading debate left the timeline for Singapore, where our first in-person trading competition went live. @intern took the title, $150,000, and the championship belt. An excellent month to be an intern. The strategy game Polytopia asks you to turn a few resources into something much bigger, without seeing the whole map. Sound familiar? That builder mindset is why Coinbase backed the World Championship through The Builders League, doubling the prize pool with an extra $10,000 in USDC. The champion can put the extra prize toward whatever comes next: school, a company, an idea still sitting in the notes app. Talent doesn’t always arrive with a resume. Sometimes it’s on a leaderboard. Anyone can open a group chat. Keeping people coming back is a bit more challenging. Base’s new Trencher Grant Program offers up to $5,000 for leading a community or creating content about Base culture. The organizers, explainers, and people making the post everyone shares have a place in this story too. And the quarter, by the numbers We also released Q3 earnings. If you missed the update, here’s the takeaway: the Everything Exchange is showing up in the results. Crypto trading-volume market share grew for a fourth consecutive quarter, prediction markets reached $200M+ in annualized revenue in Q3, and average USDC balances in Coinbase products and Coinbase One subscribers hit new highs. Catch up on the full update below. That’s October @Coinbase. On to November.
