US sanctions Canadian money-exchange firms over Iran ties

The US Treasury sanctioned eight Canadian money-service companies accused of doing business with sanctioned Iranian entities. The firms allegedly exchanged Iranian rials and other currencies for digital assets and facilitated transactions with sanctioned Iranian digital asset exchanges and IRGC-linked addresses. Treasury said the action was coordinated with Canada's FINTRAC, and Secretary Scott Bessent said Canada cannot be a safe haven for Iran sanctions evasion.
