What is EIP-7702? The Ethereum Upgrade Behind the $6.4B Binance Hack

EIP-7702 is an Ethereum upgrade activated in May 2025 that allows standard wallets to temporarily use smart contract code with full access to funds. The upgrade enables batched transactions, gas sponsorship, and limited-permission keys, but carries security risks as delegated code has unrestricted wallet access. An attacker exploited EIP-7702 in October 2026 to drain a Binance hot wallet in a $6.4 billion hack attributed to North Korea.
