Zcash's landmark NU7 upgrade goes live, speeding up private payments

Zcash activated its NU7 upgrade early Friday, cutting target block time from 75 seconds to 25, so private payments are set to confirm about three times faster. In the first hours after activation, 225 blocks were produced averaging about 39 seconds apart, while mining difficulty was still adjusting toward the faster pace. NU7 also changes fees so miners receive 40% of transaction fees, with 60% moved to a reserve, and retires the 2016 Sprout privacy pool, leaving about 12,224 ZEC unspendable.
