Zcash's major network upgrade NU7 goes live on mainnet, cutting block time by threefold

Zcash's NU7 upgrade activated on mainnet at block height 3,543,405 on Nov. 5, cutting the target block interval from 75 to 25 seconds with block subsidies scaled down to keep issuance essentially unchanged. NU7 activates the Network Sustainability Mechanism, which removes 60% of each block's transaction fees from circulation into a public reserve, with miners receiving 40%; reserved fees are scheduled for reissuance from block 8,939,664, expected in 2031.
